Become a Sport Athlete (ages 12+)

 

To register for the 2024-25 season, please complete the online registration form

You can register in the Special Olympics programs at any time. Registration for each season opens in late August/early September.

Who Can Join? 

Any person who wishes to join Special Olympics as an athlete must have an intellectual or a developmental disability.

Kids ages 2-11, You can join the Active Start and FUNdamentals

Athletes ages 12 and over- You can practice and compete in 9 sports. 

 

How Much Skill is Required?

No previous sport experience is required with the exception of being able to float independently (swimming). You are encouraged to participate in any of our Special Olympic programs. You can join as many of the sport programs that you would like. Some sports may have a capacity limit due to volunteer or facility constraints. Those programs have a first come, first serve registration basis and athletes must follow a minimum attendance commitment in order to maintain their enrollment throughout the season. 

 

How much does it cost to participate in Special Olympics?

It is free, thanks to the generous support of individuals and businesses who donate to Special Olympics NWT.

You are responsible for the cost of your own sport equipment such as swimwear and shoes.

As well, families/caregivers are responsible for transporting you to and from the training sessions.

Do I have to compete in order to register?

You are not required to compete. All we encourage is that you come participate weekly, and have fun! We understand everyone is working towards different goals.
